Art, plant life and the city - green guerrilla, guerrilla gardening
Playgreen

What place should flora have within today’s cities… and tomorrow’s ?

This question lies at the heart of Playgreen, a chantier held in association with Bio_Cité. Playgreen offers some thoughts on the methods of plant life development in the city and the cultural and aesthetic problematics involved.

The chantier combines approaches that are environmental (green architecture, landscaping), social (communal gardens) and artistic (performances, biotech art) with new communication and information technologies.

The goal of the September experimentation is clear: to explore the possibilities of the use of plant life in urban space and to enrich the biodiversity of the urban fabric, while encouraging inhabitants to (re)claim possession of their environment.

The implementation of the chantier is inspired by the singular initiatives of Green Guerrilla – operations that were “invented” in New York in the 1970s. The non violent Green Guerrilla mobilise those citizens who are anxious not to let the grass suffocate beneath the concrete. Armed with seeds and trowels, they take over plots of land neglected by the public authorities. Its founding elements are collective creation and the recuperation of wastelands for the installation of community gardens, in an expression of social vitality.
