Metamembrana

Metamembrana | Marcel.li Antunez Roca [Spain]
Metamembrana

Metamembrana is the last part of the Membrana trilogy developed by Spanish artist Marcel.lí Antúnez Roca (founding member of the La Fura del Baus collective), renowned for his eccentric performances and mechanical installations.

The first two parts of this atypical project are, in chronological order: Protomembrana, conference-performance produced in 2006 (currently touring), and Hipermembrana, a mechatronics show created in October 2007.

Metamembrana consists of an interactive audiovisual installation in the form of an immense landscape-collage constituted by a multitude of details. It is a direct extension of Antúnez Roca’s research on the relationship between works and spectators. His aesthetic borrows from Flemish painting as much as it does from graphic arts or video games – it lies somewhere between Jérôme Bosch and Super Mario Bros...

Fundamentally evolutionary, this powerful metaphor for the city varies according to the place in which it is presented. In this respect, the preparatory workshops organised in several European cities (Lisbon, Barcelona, currently Paris and soon Turin) are designed as real laboratories and play an essential role in the creative process of Metamembrana.

The artistic chantier of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris will thus allow this ultra-sophisticated set-up to be adapted to this territorial context.

As a preview, Antúnez Roca will present the prototype of this forthcoming interactive audiovisual installation, at a conference-performance given during the SmartCity conference on September 30th at the CIUP.
