Artistic work sites

The work sites represent the first phase of the SmartCity @ la CIUP project and initiate an extensive series of artistic experimentation in the south of Paris.

The work sites are devised in direct correlation with the Cité Internationale site and its local environment, the city of Gentilly. They are the result of the artistic teams’ immersion within this perimeter during the month of September. The contributors (artists, scientists, industrialists, landscape architects…), coming from varied backgrounds and from all over Europe, share their skills and inform their actions with the meticulous location-scouting and analysis work that began in July.

Within the consciously political tone of this event, the work sites aim to provoke a critical re-examination of our everyday environment. The programme’s implicit proposition is to invite citizens to debate the issues democratically and increase their sense of responsibility.  The work sites are organised around 3 thematics and a residency.

CityScan | artistic, sensitive and digital cartography of the territory
Playgreen | art, plant life and the city – green activism and guerrilla gardening
Invisibles | political and artistic signing – revealing the urban invisible
Metamembrana | Marcel.lí Antúnez Roca’s creative residency – urban interactive audiovisual installation

These works will generate hybrid projects, ranging from the radiography of invisible disturbances to green activism interventions; from the development of a sensitive Geographical Information System to sound installations or a high-tech interactive performance.

During an event at the Cité Internationale, on Tuesday 30th September, the first results will be revealed in vivo in the course of a guided visit and via the intervention of anthropologist Stéphane Juguet, who will present a summary during a conference.

This first wave of activities at the Cité Internationale opens up new perspectives for future collaborations between Dédale and CitéCulture: a joint call for projects has already been launched and further territorialized experimentation will follow.
