Fotomaton
FOTOMATON Bozar Studios | Artistic project by Vincen Beeckman / OST
Does the sight of an automatic photo booth leave you cold, or even stone cold? Things are set to change thanks to the Fotomaton operation, presented in the context of CityScan.
The Fotomaton is a small photography booth just like the ones found in stations and public places.
However, this one has a few particularities, the main one being that a photographer is located behind the image capture window and engages in conversation with the person being photographed. The Fotomaton moves about within districts, events and artistic projects to capture the faces of models, who are curious and eager to play along with this strange photographic studio. The Fotomaton is set up during various interventions in specific SmartCity sites: the hall of the Maison Internationale of the CIUP, the RER station in Gentilly, in Paris...
It is hosted by photographers from OST who collect the portraits. A mini interview/survey has been concocted by the SmartCity contributors, in order to gather various pieces of information which will provide the GIS map with data (names, origins, place of residence, mode of transport etc). When there is no photographer in the Fotomaton, it is placed in the hall of the Maison Internationale and is transformed into an exhibition stand and info point, via posters, projections or the distribution of images and so on.
Finalities
The production of a large fresco of portraits coded in ASCI or a mosaic of portraits and information texts/cartographies.
Live print-out during the conference of September 30th at the Maison Internationale of the CIUP.
